Rider was not on the bicycle and was not injured. The bicycle was leaned on a wall and fell over, when picked up the clamp/head was broken.

Post about four years old when it broke (early 2009); rider weight, installation procedure, and usage not stated.

A representative of Thomson says the head is overdesigned compared to the tube, so the tube will bend before the head bends or breaks. As a result, "ear" failures are a bending rather than fracture unless the clamp bolts are too tight. Deep insertion — that is, placing the seat very low — may prevent the tube from bending first.
